LETTING OUR CATS DESIGN OUR BATHROOM

Earlier this year, I played around with an AI design experiment. We were getting ready to renovate our bathroom, but were still exploring style ideas. I was curious how I could use AI to abstractly connect each of my cat’s unique personalities to how I envisioned they would design the bathroom. The seed of inspiration for this concept came from this Youtube video, where the bathroom’s color and design was inspired by the YouTuber’s puppy.

I used a 3D modeling software called Sketchup, and the built-in AI tool call Diffusion. Starting from a simple 3D model of the bathroom, I would enter in a description of a style for each cat. For example, Maple wanted a “dark academia Victorian bathroom.” I ended up presenting the process and results at a happy hour at my work - see below for the presentation!

Our cat Maple’s design is dark academia, Victorian inspired. She’s a aloof, moody, fierce, and a little sweet gray tabby. Our cat Macchiato is chill, unbothered, and always ready for good food. His design was natural and boho - the perfect vacation getaway. Panda, our third cat, is considerate and disciplined. His black and white coat highlights a certain elegance. His design is minimal, clean, and sharp.

My spouse and I liked all the ideas the cats came up with, but we had to add some of our own ideas for the actual renovation. I hope to share the actual bathroom renovation in a few months!
